                         EVALUATION

How does your media product represent particular social groups and how did you attract your audience?

The social group I have attracted is young adults between the age of 18-25,who listen to swing music . The target audience are men and women adults. People who like retro or vintage swing are the main target audience. The ethnicity of my audience is white as swing music’s are mostly liked by white people. They work full time (the women probably have their own little vintage boutique or hair salon around shorditch area). My target audience listens to old school swing music. Some of their favourite artists being Parov stelr and Caravan palace. my target audience like to have fun and like swing dance. Some of them use social network such as Tumblr and Instagram to upload their night out photographs. They would also have old school favourite records in their house somewhere . My target audience’s lifestyle choice is very healthy .They look after their shape and looks.

I have represented my social group through the use of miss en scene . My targeted social group are very fashionable and like vintage things. The women wear colourful clothing like red , wear bright makeup like red lipstick and also have bright colour hair ( mostly red ). The men probalby like to wear vitage suit with bowtie or casual vintage trousers and shirts.so I wanted poetry a model that looks like the ideal retro vintage pinup girls so that they can connect with her. My model looks innocent feminine and chicky. The red colour for the lipstick and headband, automatically attracts my targeted social group as the colour has connotations of develish, sexy and attractive. The traits of pinup girls are their lipstick colour being vibrant and being a statement maker. This conforms to the retro style which attracts my targeted social group .I have chosen these colours to engage my targeted social group as these are considered to be 'a bold statement'. My use of lighting has focused on the models face to highlight her facial features. It creates more focusing on her beautiful lips and eyes which are desired by majority of the targeted social group  Her eye makeup have attempted in making her lips look quite big and her eyes seem more feminine through her eyelashes and her eyeliner. Her facial contouring has given an impression of cheekbones which falls into the category of retro-style.

The social group like to be bold and main attention. So I used a close up shot focusing on the models face. I have angled the camera in a way which makes her eyes appear big; this creates indications of innocence and femininity, which touches upon a retro perception of femininity. This allows to attract the social group as they can connect with her. Her facial expressions create seduction and connote sexual context as well as presenting female traits. Men, which are an additional target audience, may see this as arousing and will further their interest. Females may view this as an inspiration as this conveys how an ideal female should look like. Going back to the 1980s, which is known for their 'retro-lifestyle', I have chosen the expected hairstyle as well as the beauty spot. These all indicate an insight of retro living and being beautiful. The close shot shows no apparent imperfections and highlights her beauty. Viewing this picture from a male perspective, it meets their requirements of viewing a beautiful female and as a female, they are more induced into what makes a female attractive and admired by a male. My use of lighting has focused on the models face to highlight her facial features. It creates more focusing on her beautiful lips and eyes which are desired by majority of the social group.

Through the use of an attractive young female as the cover star of my music magazine I was able to represent and appeal to my aimed social group who are similar age to my front cover model. The social group will be more connected and relate to her as they have something in common so they are more likely to purchase the product. In addition to this by challenging the stereo types and using an Asian female instead of a white female (who are mostly associated with retro pinup girls style),I was able to appeal to non white audiences.
