WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR

YOUR MEDIA?

                         EVALUATION

How does your media product represent particular social groups and how did you attract your audience?

The social group I have attracted is young adults between the age of 18-25,who listen to swing music . The target audience are men and women adults. People who like retro or vintage swing are the main target audience. The ethnicity of my audience is white as swing music’s are mostly liked by white people. They work full time (the women probably have their own little vintage boutique or hair salon around shorditch area). My target audience listens to old school swing music. Some of their favourite artists being Parov stelr and Caravan palace. my target audience like to have fun and like swing dance. Some of them use social network such as Tumblr and Instagram to upload their night out photographs. They would also have old school favourite records in their house somewhere . My target audience’s lifestyle choice is very healthy .They look after their shape and looks.

I have represented my social group through the use of miss en scene . My targeted social group are very fashionable and like vintage things. The women wear colourful clothing like red , wear bright makeup like red lipstick and also have bright colour hair ( mostly red ). The men probalby like to wear vitage suit with bowtie or casual vintage trousers and shirts.so I wanted poetry a model that looks like the ideal retro vintage pinup girls so that they can connect with her. My model looks innocent feminine and chicky. The red colour for the lipstick and headband, automatically attracts my targeted social group as the colour has connotations of develish, sexy and attractive. The traits of pinup girls are their lipstick colour being vibrant and being a statement maker. This conforms to the retro style which attracts my targeted social group .I have chosen these colours to engage my targeted social group as these are considered to be 'a bold statement'. My use of lighting has focused on the models face to highlight her facial features. It creates more focusing on her beautiful lips and eyes which are desired by majority of the targeted social group  Her eye makeup have attempted in making her lips look quite big and her eyes seem more feminine through her eyelashes and her eyeliner. Her facial contouring has given an impression of cheekbones which falls into the category of retro-style.

The social group like to be bold and main attention. So I used a close up shot focusing on the models face. I have angled the camera in a way which makes her eyes appear big; this creates indications of innocence and femininity, which touches upon a retro perception of femininity. This allows to attract the social group as they can connect with her. Her facial expressions create seduction and connote sexual context as well as presenting female traits. Men, which are an additional target audience, may see this as arousing and will further their interest. Females may view this as an inspiration as this conveys how an ideal female should look like. Going back to the 1980s, which is known for their 'retro-lifestyle', I have chosen the expected hairstyle as well as the beauty spot. These all indicate an insight of retro living and being beautiful. The close shot shows no apparent imperfections and highlights her beauty. Viewing this picture from a male perspective, it meets their requirements of viewing a beautiful female and as a female, they are more induced into what makes a female attractive and admired by a male. My use of lighting has focused on the models face to highlight her facial features. It creates more focusing on her beautiful lips and eyes which are desired by majority of the social group.

Through the use of an attractive young female as the cover star of my music magazine I was able to represent and appeal to my aimed social group who are similar age to my front cover model. The social group will be more connected and relate to her as they have something in common so they are more likely to purchase the product. In addition to this by challenging the stereo types and using an Asian female instead of a white female (who are mostly associated with retro pinup girls style),I was able to appeal to non white audiences.

Here is my final product

                         ARTICLE

THE CANDY DROPS ARE UNLIKE ANY OTHER BANDS AROUND RIGHT NOW .THE YOUNG BRITISH BAND CRACKED THE AMERICAN TOP 10 THIS WEEK .

The amazing British band CANDY DROP has hit the American top 10 with their number one hit “LOVE YUH”. The group have announced that there is another hit coming up. The CANDY DROP is an American swing music group, consisting of rappers DAN and singer KIM. Originally an alternative swing group, they subsequently added pop. Although the group was founded in London in 1990, it was not until the release of their third album on 1992 that they achieved high record sales. Since that time, the group has sold an estimated 50 million records making them one of the world's best-selling groups of all time. Their first major hit was the 2000 single "I’ve been there"  , topped the charts in 20 countries, including America, where it spent seven weeks at number one and went on to become Britain's biggest selling single of 2000.Another  hit single from the album was "So what". Their fourth album ‘whatever you like’ was an even bigger worldwide success, certified 4× Platinum in the U.S.

In eighth-graders DAN AND KIM began singing and performing together around London. The pair started singing in school performances and local studios. At the age of 16 the duo began to expand their circle and started to participate in local music competitions. The pair signed to Records in 1990, catching the attention of manager DAVID ALBERT. The duo release their first single “LIKE WHAT”  which wasn’t a success however  their third  single “WONDER WOMAN “ became The CANDY DROP's first major hit, peaking at No.3 on the U.S. It became the biggest-selling single of 2001. After a year they released an album “ I LIKE IT”. Their second single from the album titled "NOBODY LIKE YOU” won a 2005 Grammy for Best Performance by a Duo and also received two nominations for Record of the Year and Best  swing Song. Their fourth album “WE ARE YOUNG” was recorded through 2005 and was released on June 7, 2006.  The album's first single, I’M REAL", was a hit in the U.S., reaching number three on the U.S Hot 100.

Now 2014 the CANDY DROPS are one of the best British bands. The duos write their own music and also make their own music video “It’s just something that we've always done our first ever video was made because we finished the song and we wanted to make a video for it. So we did and kept making other videos, we kind of never stopped”.

So what’s the story behind the band name?
“This might sound stupid but the story behind our band name is that we both like candy. We couldn't think of a band name so we decided to mix two thing we really love, music and candy”

How is the process of making music like for you guys?
KIM does most of the song writing. And then we work together and change things up.

Usually bands have a lead singer, but you guys don’t. Is there a reason for that?
We just like to work together and we are both as talented so we didnt really think about having a lead singer.

Who are your musical inspirations?
A lot of UK swing dance music so people like Ben Webster and Art Tatum. At the moment for me,

I've been listening to a lot of Don Bays.

      MAKING OF DOUBLE SPREAD PAGE

This is going to be the lay out of my double page spread. I will place my images in the white boxes. I have decided to have one bigger image on one side of my page because i wanted the image to be main focus than the text because that's what my target audience would like to look at first.my text and tittle will go on top of the right hand side. I’ll have my interview at the bottom of the right hand side on a blue box.my head line will be placed on to under the tittle to make it more conventional, my text will be black and red to make the page more colourful and attractive, it also matches the colour-scheme on my front cover.

                  FINAL CONTENTS PAGE

HERE IS MY FINAL PRODUCT .

FONTS AND HOUSE STYLE DESIGN FOR CONTENTS PAGE

For my contents page I will use two font styles, one for the word 'contents' and the other for the text. For my word contents I will use "Perpetua titling MT" font whilst for the informative text I will use 'Perpetua' font. For my informative text, I used the same font that I used for my sell lines. This was so that I had the same house style for my contents page. I stuck to the colour scheme which I originally chose.I will stick to the same colour scheme which appears on the front of my magazine red, black and white. My contents page will follow a basic structure. The word contents will be at the top, while the informative text will be placed on my images under my model.
          MAKING OF CONTENTS PAGE

I opened up Photoshop and opened a new blank file A4 page. I then typed the word CONTENTS on the top of the page. I made the writing big and bold to make is more visible and making it easier for the audience to know what page they are looking at. This was the result.

Then I opened up my main image in another tab and dragged it into the new file and then adjust the size of the image. I made a white small box and place it on top of my image (at the end). I changed the capacity to 63% to make sure my audience can see the image clearly. Then I placed my text on the top of the box. I used a black font so that my text stands out more.

My image was a bit dark so i change the brightness to make it brighter and more vibrant. I added more pictures and texts.
